Breath activities
The quality of our breathing can substantially affect our health and the quality of our lives, and therefore our self-worth.
Breathing more efficiently is one of the major aims of yoga and provide children with the tools to self calm.
By helping children to breathe more efficiently, consciously and purposely we are giving them tools to self-calm and to help themselves through anxious moments, like SATS, bullying or weekly spelling tests.
This means the child feels in control; the message he sends himself is ‘I can deal with the situation by practising my calming breath’.
We teach breathing activities that can help to strengthen and develop the voice.
The voice is crucial in communication and a strong voice is an indication of self - esteem on the up.
Some techniques we teach have a cleansing effect on the lungs. Efficient breathing oxygenates the brain and the muscles, and calms the nervous system.
All of which contribute to a greater well - being and therefore, again, a positive effect on self worth – let alone on the health aspect.
