Yoga at School Certificate for Teaching Yoga to Children (YaS CTYC)

The programme consists of three UNITS that are taught on three separate days over a period of 9 to12 months. They are IN ADDITION to the Full Training Day.

The Units are:

Day 1: Unit 1: Adapting postures and sequence for children with physical needs

Day 2: Unit 2: How to link yoga to the curriculum

Day 3: Unit 3:How to teach breath awareness to children

Unit 1: Adapting postures and sequence for children with physical needs

This unit is designed to teach you how to make adaptations to the posture for the whole class in order to ensure that all children are included. You will have opportunities to explore adaptations for a wide range of postures. You are encouraged to develop a sense of differentiation between correction and adaptation.

Unit 2:How to link yoga to the curriculum

The aim of this unit is to help you to enrich your lessons by integrating the yoga lesson with curriculum areas. You will learn how to access national curriculum subject areas and how to recognise obvious and strongest links to yoga. You will learn how to plan a lesson around the curriculum link and how to work with class teacher to produce effective lessons.

This unit will help you develop your skills in delivering lessons to pupil creatively

Unit 3: How to teach breath awareness to children

The aim of this unit is to focus on specific breath awareness activities and explore ways of integrating them into ‘yoga story’ to increase the children’s awareness of the breath. You will be able to identify the essential components of the ‘yoga story’ and develop your skills in integrating PSHE and self esteem issues into the ‘yoga story’


Assessment and Qualification

Qualifying Teaching Practice:

You are assessed solely on your standard of teaching. There are no written assignments or presentations. In order to achieve your YaS(CTEC) Certificate you will need to demonstrate a high standard in the following areas:

 

  1. Classroom Management Skills
  2. Your ability to structure and plan children's yoga lessons
  3. Your ability to match content to children you are teaching
  4. Your skills in helping children enhance their self esteem
